India Strengthened – What can we expect from Modi Govt in next 5 years?

Narendra Modi ji led NDA has been elected to power once again. And this time the electorate has shown how much faith they repose in Modiji –the electoral performance speaks for itself and the numbers are better than he secured in 2014. I have no doubt that the future of the nation is secured in the hands of the incumbent government. Let us take a look at what can we expect from the new government in the fresh term based on the election manifesto released for the 2019 elections:

Efforts towards boosting the agri sector

Uplifting the farmers has been a priority for the government since it first came into power in 2014. Modiji has a vision to double farmers’ income.  It is likely that there will be an INR 25 lakh crore investment in the agri-rural sector which will be utilized to improve the productivity of the agricultural sector. Farmers will also have access to agricultural loans up to INR 1 lakh at no interest for up to 5 years. In my opinion, this will provide a much-needed relief to the agricultural sector since the farmers have been under considerable stress.

Zero tolerance for terrorism

I am also confident that the incumbent government will demonstrate a zero tolerance policy against terrorism and extremism. As was evident from the Balalkot strikes, a free hand will be given to our security forces to take all actions necessary for combating terrorism. Another much-needed reform that can be expected from the new government is the implementation of the uniform civil code. Modiji strongly believes that for true gender equality, adoption of a Uniform Civil Code is a necessity which can protect the rights of all women, irrespective of their religious faith. I believe that this an extremely important reform that can be brought in and will go a long way in preventing the oppression of women.

Help the veterans of Armed Forces

I also expect that the government will take necessary steps to create a more effective framework for the resettlement of the veterans of our Armed Forces. As per the election manifesto, the government will ensure that the Armed Forces plan for the resettlement of soldiers three years before their retirement. The resettlement will include provision for skills training, soft skills training, and financial support for higher education, for housing and for staring an enterprise.

Tax reforms and reforms in the economic policy

I also expect that the new government will introduce a slur of tax reforms for the benefit of the common man.  I am confident that the new government will consider more tax relief measures when the Union Budget 2019 is presented. During the last term, the government had already taken up the task of replacing the existing Income Tax Act in order to make it more compliant with the needs of the present times. So one of the things that I expect from the new government is new tax legislation. I am also helpful that the government will provide a full income tax rebate for those earning up to Rs 5 lakhs per annum and increase the standard deduction from salary to Rs 50,000,in order to provide relief to the common man.

I am also confident the government will continue with its campaign of getting the black money out of the system by implementing various changes in the tax rules and introduce new regulatory measures to prevent leakages from the economy. It is expected that Modiji’s government will also work towards making the economy ‘cash-lite’ and direct RBI to introduce measures for making the electronic payment

For those employed in the factories, I am hopeful that the government will come up with a  proper cover for migrant laborers and factory workers through the Employees’ State Insurance Scheme by 2022.

International relations

On the international front, I expect that the new government will take adequate steps to gain access into the Chinese markets. I understand that the department of commerce is looking to reduce India’s trade deficit with its neighbor, come up with a detailed sector-wise strategy for import substitution in electronics, telecom, electrical equipment and pharmaceuticals, which form the bulk of the country’s purchases from China.

Conclusion

I am certain that the new government will focus on sectors which can help to create a large number of employment opportunities and also focus on the skill training of the youth.  Going by the track record of the government from the previous term, I am confident the Modiji will come up with several plans and policy reforms to strengthen India’s development on a global platform. I only hope for the best as Phir Ek Baar, Modi sarkar has come to power.
