1 year of Modi 2.0 : A snapshot of the achievements

During a short span of one year, Modi government has catapulted India to greater heights. There is no denying that there were several obstacles in the course but it makes me very happy and proud that we have achieved success despite everything. In this post, I will be presenting a snapshot of the major milestones achieved during this term.

Boosting agricultural sector

This decision came right in the first cabinet meeting after Modi ji assumed office.  He announced that all farmers in India, without regard to their land holdings, will receive a support of ₹6,000. This was a very timely decision to give a big boost to rural consumption and nearly 145 crore farmers were benefitted. Separately, a pension cover of  ₹10,774.5 crores for a period of three years was also announced which was a huge relief for the distress experienced in the farming sector for the last several years. Over the year, the government introduced several welfare schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and increasing the minimum selling price of crops by more than one and a half times, breathing fresh air in the Indian agricultural space.

Strengthening economy

Several key FDI reforms were introduced during the past year. One of the major reforms includes the relaxations in the norms for single-brand retail which will be hugely beneficial to attract international players to invest in India and also create more employment opportunities. The government also allowed relaxations for receiving FDI in civil aviation, brought in several reforms in Companies Act, reduces corporate taxes, and announced major loan reliefs for MSMEs. All of these steps were extremely critical to provide a further boost to the Indian economy and take it to places.

Passing CAA and revoking Article 370

keeping the spirit of India’s psyche of supporting assimilation, the historic Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 was passed under the leadership of Modiji. This act brought in a change in the definition of illegal migrants to exclude Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who have lived in India without documentation, and made them eligible for a fast-track Indian citizenship in five years. This was a much-needed reform as people belonging to these religions who live in countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh face day to day persecution on the grounds of religion.

Another historic decision was the revocation of Article 370 from the Constitution of India and taking away the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. This was also a much-needed step to provide for full integration of this state with the rest of India and provide its residents with equal opportunities like the ones accorded to the people residing in other states. As Amitbhai ji Shah rightly pointed out, this step was done to correct a historical mistake committed at the time of independence of India.

Several welfare measures for the well being of citizens

I would like to extend my congratulations to Modi ji for introducing schemes such as Ayushman Bharat that has provided much-needed relief to about 50 crore poor people and allowed them to access medical care free of cost’  Ujjwala scheme that has been instrumental in empowering the poor women, and the Jan Dhan accounts that provide financial assistance of Rs 6,000 annually to farmers. PM Awas Yojana was also another key reform to secure housing rights for the urban and rural poor.

Boost to the tourism sector

Virtually no sector has been left untouched by Modi ji’s revolutionary ideas. For the tourism sector, the government planned the development of 17 iconic sites as world-class destinations that will encourage the arrival of tourists in India. The government also planned on setting up one hundred new clusters in 2019-20 that will enable 50,000 artisans to benefit from the economy. Another notable achievement in this sector was integrating the indigenous tribes and the not so popular tourist destinations through the help of digital platforms. This was indeed a masterstroke that will enable such destinations to hugely benefit from tourism and boost the local economy.

Conclusion

I am confident that India will become a USD 5 trillion economy very soon under Modiji’s able leadership Despite the climate of crisis throw on us on account of the Covid-19 outbreak, we are doing exceptionally well in all areas of development and economy , standing tall as a self-reliant country. My heartiest congratulations to Narendra Modi ji!
